The origin of Gong Fan is in Zigong City, Sichuan Province. It was produced during the Tongzhi period of the Qing Dynasty. Due to its founder being Gong Jiwu and a unique skill passed down by the Gong family, it is known as the "Gong Fan". As early as the end of the Qing Dynasty, Gong Fan was already well-known, renowned both domestically and internationally, and highly respected by renowned officials both domestically and internationally. Having won the gold medal bestowed by Empress Dowager Cixi, Chiang Kai shek and his wife, prominent figures in the Qing court, military and political figures, wealthy businessmen, and the Queen of England competed for collection, earning a hundred times their value. Even the contemporary literary giant Mr. Guo Moruo praised Gong Fan as "thin as a cicada's wings and exquisite in craftsmanship".

Zigong Gongfan Bamboo Weaving Craft Factory was founded by Gong Qian, the fifth generation inheritor of Gongfan.
