Mianzhu New Year paintings originated in the Ming and Qing dynasties and were named after their production in Mianzhu, Sichuan. It has a wide range of content, with an artistic style of complete composition, exaggerated and deformed characters, ancient and smooth lines, and bright and lively colors. It is completed through processes such as drafting, engraving, ink printing, coloring, and printing, and is known for its handmade color painting. It is one of the four major New Year paintings in China. Over the course of hundreds of years of development, it has been inclusive and perfect, gradually forming its own characteristics. In 2006, Mianzhu New Year paintings were named as one of the first national intangible cultural heritage projects by the Ministry of Culture. In 2017, Mianzhu New Year paintings were named as one of the first traditional craft revitalization projects by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In 2018, Deyang City also made Mianzhu New Year paintings the first local legislative protection object.

The Mianzhu New Year Painting Museum was established in September 1993 with the consent of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government and the approval of the Sichuan Provincial Organization Committee in Document No. 94 (1993). The Mianzhu New Year Painting Museum is committed to conducting a systematic survey, collection, organization, preservation, research, publicity, and promotion of Mianzhu woodblock New Year painting projects, a national intangible cultural heritage, and comprehensively inheriting and protecting their intangible cultural skills. After the 2008 earthquake, the museum was rebuilt with an area of 4000 square meters. The museum has complete facilities and a large collection of ancient folk New Year paintings and New Year paintings. There are the largest fan squeezing door god in China, the longest traditional New Year painting, the largest hand-painted ticket, unique double-sided New Year painting rubbings, and water filled New Year paintings, among others.
